This has been reported in ibnlive.com dated 19 September 2015.
The Karnataka government has already declared drought in 27 out of 30 districts since it has received 35 percent deficient rainfall. As per reports, over 400 farmers’ suicides have been reported in Karnataka this year of which Gulbarga, Bidar, Raichur and Yadgir are the worst affected. In the district of Gulbarga itself, 16 such deaths have been reported in the last 2 months.
The drought has resulted in a severe water crisis in the region with the water levels in reservoirs have decreased to alarmingly low levels. The combined effect of a weak monsoon coupled with shortage of water has affected fodder availability for cattle.
To mitigate the sufferings, the local administration in Gulbarga is supplying water through tankers to 54 villages and have started 32 fodder banks.
