This has been reported in zeenews.india.com dated 9 July 2015.
It is understood that forest department officials of Uttarakhand had placed cameras at strategic locations and have, thus, succeeded in capturing visuals of one of the animals. The camera trap photograph of the snow leopard was the first documented evidence of the presence of the species in Kumaon region. It is known to prowl elsewhere in the wilds in the state and is the first time it has been sighted in Kumaon.
As per the forest officials, the very recent photographs of this rare endangered species is an undeniable proof of the fact that there are quite a few of them in this place – there is not just one, but 11 of the animals in the region. The snow leopard was captured in Bageshwar district on June 29 at an altitude of 4,100 meters above sea level and, based on this evidence, forest department plans to draw up better conservation strategy for this endangered species.
