Music is a great healer – listen to classical music and lower your blood pressure

A research carried out by Oxford University has revealed that if you want to keep your heart healthy, you can listen to classical music. A blast of Classic FM could go a long way to reducing your blood pressure. However, at the other end of the spectrum, doses of latest pop and rap hits must be avoided because these can send the BP rocketing.
This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 9 June 2015.
In order to carry out the investigation, the cardiologists played different music styles and analyzed the cardiovascular response of each individual- these included the blood pressure and pulse.
The researchers found that certain operas and classical orchestral pieces are perfectly in sync with the body’s natural rhythm – these lowered the listener’s blood pressure. However, fast-paced rap, pop and techno tunes raised the blood pressure of the listeners.
It was seen that slow pieces by Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi, extracts from Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and Indian sitar music were quite effective at lowering blood pressure – and could prove a powerful therapeutic tool.
