Gurkhas in Britain to celebrate 200th anniversary – Queen to attend the program

Gurkhas in Britain would take part in a pageant that would be attended by the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh – the occasion wild be to mark 200 years’ service to the British Crown. Prince Charles - Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Gurkha Rifles - and Prince Harry - who lived with a Gurkha battalion in Afghanistan - will also attend the event.
The event is being organized by the Gurkha Welfare Trust. It provides financial and medical support to former Gurkha servicemen and their families.
This has been reported in bbc.com dated 9 June 2015.
The venue would be the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London and programs would feature battle re-enactments and musical performances by the Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas. On the occasion, those killed in the recent earthquakes in Nepal would also be remembered.
The event will raise funds not only in support of Gurkha veterans and their families who are in need and distress, but also to help them rebuild their communities following the recent devastating earthquakes in Nepal on April 25 in which more than 8,000 people have lost their lives.
