Scientists baffled by mysterious radio messages from beyond the Milky Way

#milkyway #AreciboObservatory #FastRadioBursts #ParkesTelescope Scientists are stumped by a series of mysterious pulsing signals that are coming from outside our solar system and beyond the Milky Way – the signals, labeled as the Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) create a strange unexplained pattern.
Researchers have revealed that so far, only 10 such bursts have been discovered - and astronomers, who should know, are at a loss to explain away this phenomenon. Moreover, a new study has concluded that all 10 bursts' dispersion measures are multiples of a single number: 187.5. This discovery has been made by Michael Hippke of the Institute for Data Analysis in Neukirchen-Vluyn, Germany, and John Learned at the University of Hawaii in Manoa. They have claimed that the probability of the line-up being a coincidence is 5 in 10,000.
This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 1 April 2015.
In the opinion of the duo, the results would imply that there are five sources for the bursts and all of them are at regularly spaced distances from Earth, billions of light-years away. Obviously, it could mean the presence of extraterrestrials or ET.
Incidentally, the FSB was first spotted in 1967 by British astronomer Jocelyn Bell Burnell – she was left stunned by mysterious pulsing signals that she had detected and that were coming from outside the solar system.
The signals had been picked up by the Parkes Radio Telescope in Australia and again by the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico. Hence these cannot be wished away as instrument glitches but needs to be studied in detail to unearth the mystery of its origin.
