Ringling Bros circus will not have elephants from 2018

#RinglingCircus #FeldEntertainment #Elephants #BarnumandBailey Patrons of famous American circuses of Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus will no longer see elephants performing in the shows with effect from 2018 as reported in bbc.com dated 5 March 2015.
One of the reasons cited for this action is the growing public concern about how the animals are treated. The company has 43 elephants that will be shifted to live at an animal conservation center in Florida. Of course, other animals like lions, tigers, horses, camels, and dogs will continue to be seen in its performances.
The problems faced by the circus organizers are from animal activists and, in recent years, many cities and even counties have passed laws that impose bans on the use of elephants for entertainment. This has led to complications because of allegations of mistreatment of the elephants. They face physical abuse at the hands of trainers and have to stay in unhealthy living conditions.
Feld Entertainment are the owners of the circus and has 43 elephants – out of these, 29 are currently living at the company's 200-acre conservation center in central Florida. As understood, until 2018, 13 of the animals will continue to perform in shows. One of the elephants has been given on loan to the Fort Worth Zoo for breeding purposes.
