Colorado gets 10 inches of snow – travel plans go awry

#Colorado #winterstorm #DenverAirport #travel A heavy winter storm threw life haywire in Colorado and snow up to three inches an hour fell across parts of Colorado's Front Range on Saturday and people braced themselves to face another blast of winter weather. There are fears that it could bring two feet or more to some areas by the beginning of next week as reported in foxnews.com dated 22 February 2015.
Denver International Airport officials indicated that 180 flights were canceled on Saturday – this was about 12 percent of scheduled flights. The airport has said that it has enough equipment like snowplows, broom trucks, runway sanders, snow melters and 4,000 gallons of chemicals on hand to clear the runways for planes in case the situation worsens.
Reports indicate that the latest snow started in northern Colorado on Saturday afternoon and began to move southwards. National Weather Service meteorologist Bernie Meier has indicated that the condition could last through Monday.
Most of the mountain snow is expected in north-central Colorado. The Colorado Avalanche Information Center has revealed that there was already 10 inches of new snow around Steamboat Springs and six inches around Aspen and Vail. In view of this some of the grocery stores were packed because the people wanted to stock up for the weekend. Consequently, bins of vegetables and rows of soup became empty in no time.
