Test tube baby of South Africa is Miss World 2014

#MissWorld2014 Rolene Strauss, Miss South Africa, a test-tube baby, has been named Miss World 2014. She had been given odds of 2/1 to win and Miss India, Koyal Rana, with odds of 7/1 from bookies.
Rolene Strauss is the daughter of a doctor and nurse and has been modeling professionally for the past several years – she is, at present, a fourth-year medical student at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein.
She is a test-tube baby – after her parents had struggled to conceive for five years, she was born thanks to in-vitro fertilization. This sort of fertility treatments have been on the rise in recent years. In April, the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology has released a report in which it is revealed that in 2012, the largest ever number of such procedures, more than 165,000, were performed on women in the United States. As a result, more than 61,000 babies we born – this is more than 1.5% of all births.
Anyway, in this year’s Miss World contest there were 125 contestants vying for the iconic title from countries including India, Brazil, Indonesia, Kenya, Guyana, Philippines, Bolivia, South Africa and Netherlands. Miss England was unfortunate to miss out on winning Miss World 2014 in London – the contest is in its 64th year and Britain had hosted the first such competition.
Cambridge University medical student Carina Tyrrell, 24, was tipped as second favourite to win the title but narrowly missed out at the last minute to Miss South Africa.
Miss Tyrrell reached the semi-final of the 64th beauty pageant and was one of five contestants who could have scooped the coveted prize.
The top three places in the beauty pageant were announced in reverse order with Miss USA finishing in third and Miss Hungary being named runner-up.
