Sandy Hook families ask why AR-15 rifles meant for US Army was released for civilian use

#sandyhook Families of some people killed by gunman Adam Lanza at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut have sued the manufacturer of the rifle used in the attack asking why a weapon like the Bushmaster AR-15 rifle was sold to a civilian.
The rifle had been designed for use by the Army – it was capable of penetrating a steel helmet.
It is reported that the negligence and wrongful death lawsuit also names the distributor and seller of the Bushmaster AR-15 rifle. The six out of the 26 families have claimed that in view of its dangers, such rifles should not have been made available to the public. A military weapon was not suitable for civilian use.
As the attorney has indicated – this weapon had been specifically engineered for the United States Military to meet the needs of changing warfare.
It may be recalled that Adam Lanza had shot his way into the elementary school in Newtown on 14 December 2012 and killed 20 children and six educators with the rifle and, finally, shot himself with a handgun as the police officers arrived. Apart from Bushmaster, the families have named Camfour, a firearm distributor, and Riverview Gun Sales, the store where the rifle was purchased in 2010 in the lawsuit case.
