New Year’s Eve celebrations in Paris to outdo Sydney and New York

#NewYearsEve #ChampsElysées #SydneyOperaHouse Paris does not want to remain a silent spectator during the New Year’s Eve celebrations. Till now, every New Year’s Eve at midnight, the glitter ball drops in New York’s Times Square while fireworks explode over the River Thames in London and the Sydney Opera House.
Henceforth, Paris is going to join in the celebrations and merrymaking when Parisians gather this year for the global midnight countdown. It would be two days of festivities and is expected to cost €600,000 (£470,000) – the city authorities would be contributing one third of the funding.
Accordingly, on this New Year’s Eve, the Arc de Triomphe at the top of the Champs-Elysées will be the focus of a 15-minute video show that will lead up to midnight.
Even without the lure of an official display, hundreds of thousands of people converge every New Year’s Eve on the Champs-Elysées and authorities have to deploy a large numbers of police to deter troublemakers. It seems last year, a total of 300,000 revelers had braved the wind and rain to come down and attend in the celebrations.
