Bihar to send teams for 26th National Canoe Sprint Championships 2015-2016 in Bhopal

The Bihar teams for 26th National Canoe Sprint Championships 2015-2016 to be held in in Bhopal was selected at Bhairava Talab, a historical pond, on the campus of Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University here on December 13. The teams for national kayaking and canoeing championships will participate in the events in Bhopal from January 12 to 15, 2016.

The championship for senior men and women would be organized by MP Amateur Kayaking Canoeing Association at the Upper Lake in Bhopal in collaboration with the directorate of sports, government of Madhya Pradesh. Side by side, the national championship for junior men and women and sub-junior boys & girls would be organized by Kerala kayaking and Canoeing Association at Kollam in Kerala from January 21 to 23, 2016.
The secretary of Bihar Kayaking and Canoeing Association, a body affiliated to Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association, has indicated that the teams have started regular practice in that pond located in front of stadium of the varsity here and hopes that his boys and girls will score better as all of them have toiled hard.

Two trains derail near Bhopal at same spot together – 29 killed

It was a tragic accident when two trains derailed at the same spot at the same time and killed 29 passengers – five of the dead were children. The tragedy occurred while the trains were crossing a culvert on the swollen Machak River in Harda district, 160-Km from Bhopal and the time was 30 minutes before midnight.

There were ten bogies involved - seven from the Varanasi-bound Kamayani Express and three from the Mumbai-bound Janata Express.
Most of the casualties were reported from the Mumbai-Varanasi Kamayani Express, which had almost 200 people travelling to UP. Some of the people were victims of electrocution because the overhead traction wire snapped and fell on the tracks.
Rescue operations started nearly four hours after the tragedy.
Incidentally, 20 minutes before this tragedy, the Pawan Express and a goods train had crossed the same spot safely. The railways blamed the tragedy to flash floods triggered by a breach in a bund (embankment) at the nearby Mandla village under Khirkiya tehsil. However, the Harda administration denied that embankments on Machak River had collapsed and blamed the accident to erosion of the soil below the railway tracks.

Bhopal plans to have ‘she lounge’ in eight locations of the city

In order to ensure safety and comfort to the women shoppers and professionals, Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has plans to develop as many as eight ‘She Lounges’ in various locations of the city. Women shoppers or working females can occupy the place for a bit of rest.

These facilities would be air-conditioned and would be equipped with all the basic amenities that may be required by the women shoppers or working professionals.
The BMC has already begun work and has earmarked places like New Market, Bittan Market, Polytechnic Square, 10 Number Stop, MP Nagar, MP Nagar Zone I and Zone II. The next step is to get the necessary land for which corporation officials have begun work.
All these facilities are proposed to be built on VIP lounge models and expects to throw them open by December this year.
It seems it would be the responsibility of the concerned agency to construct these lounges and maintain them – they would be allowed to raise operational revenue by posting ads on the walls of the lounge for these women-centric amenities.
