Edward Snowden, the NSA whistleblower, joins Twitter

Edward Snowden, the NSA whistleblower had revealed plenty of secrets pertaining to the workings of the National Security Agency that led to generation of bad blood with the United States authorities. He has, at last, got a Twitter account.

Edward Snowden has sought for and got asylum in Russia. It is a temporary asylum and he managed to get it after he admitted that he was the source of the NSA documents leaked to several media outlets, including the Washington Post.
He still faces criminal charges in the United States but has succeeded in maintaining a pretty high profile. He is serving on the board of directors for the Freedom of the Press Foundation and is also making fairly frequent livestreamed appearances.
However, he has maintained a fairly discreet online presence while in exile.
This is because all web publishing platforms have massive amounts of analytics embedded in them. Like Facebook – it keeps record of how long you are on each page, what posts you click on, what pictures you have seen. These are store permanently. Obviously, any individual in a high risk situation has got to be careful.

This has been conveyed by Anatoly Kucherena, the Russian lawyer of Snowden. Kucherena has indicated that the work is on hand to devise a way to solve the issue of Snowden’s extradition with the United States. It seems Snowden who had leaked details of the government's mass surveillance programs was working with American and German lawyers to return home. His biggest demand is that he be given a fair trial when charged for his offenses.
Anatoly Kucherena was talking at a news conference about a book he had written on Snowden and has said that there is a group of U.S. lawyers, there is also a group of German lawyers and he himself was handling the Russian side.
It may be recalled that Moscow had granted Snowden asylum in 2013, and he has been given a three-year residence permit in Russia. However, while the US government wants Snowden back in America and face trials, the amount of public support and sympathy for the 31-year-old is sky high and the situation needs to be handled with utmost caution and care.
A documentary about Snowden, Citizenfour, had won the Oscar last week, and Snowden is regarded as a cult figure and held in high esteem by many.
Incidentally, Snowden had opened a can of worms and its repercussions have left the authorities embarrassed. He has been charged with theft of government property and two counts of violating the 1917 Espionage Act.
