West Bengal government trying to woo IT sector with more facilities

The government of West Bengal wants to woo the IT industry in Salt Lake Sector-V with promises of more facilities. Hence, the administration plans to hold a meeting with IT representatives to discuss the problems the industry is facing. The initiative has come at an opportune moment since the government has signaled a crackdown on syndicates. These cartels had been tormenting the IT hubs of Sector V and Rajarhat-New Town.
This has been reported in telegraphindia.com dated 31 July 2016.
The meeting will be held at Nabanna, the state secretariat. Since the state has not yet explicitly cleared the air on SEZ status for IT projects, the government is making an effort to "build confidence through other measures".
The "law and order" in Salt Lake Sector would be on the agenda apart from issues like adequate streetlights in and around Sector V, parking problems and increase in the number of hawkers.
Sector-V is home to 350 small, medium and big companies, most of them in the IT sector. There are nearly 150 plots measuring between two and five cottahs lying vacant in Sector V and its adjoining areas and the government was determined to ensure tat syndicates do not interfere in the way of industrialization.
It is estimated that nearly 1.5 lakh employees come to Sector V daily and 40 per cent of the workforce were women. To cater to them, around 12,000 vehicles ply in the area every day.

Mamata Banerjee determined to bring back industries to West Bengal

While speaking on the occasion of felicitation of her as she begins her second term as Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee asked industrialists to stir out of "sleep", beat the "recession", make investments and bring to the government's attention "local" issues which she promised to take care of. She was felicitated by nine business chambers, including Ficci and Assocham.
This has been reported in telegraphindia.com dated 8 June 2016.
In order to bring home the point, she has said that her government had done whatever was needed to facilitate investments in Bengal. It is now for industry to reciprocate. In the course of her speech she admitted that some "local" problems might exist and she urged the industrialists to bring to her notice any irregularities.
An industrialist who was present on the occasion revealed that the Chief Minister was well aware of what is going on. But, as she has herself admitted, not everything could be controlled. However, her assurance of resolving any issue brought to her notice is welcome. He had made these observations in an oblique reference to allegations of extortion by syndicates.
