At least 27 killed and another 100 injured in blast in Suruc, Turkey

#turkey #Suruc #islamicstate #suicidebomber #SGDF #kobane It was a blast in the garden of a cultural center in Suruc, southern Turkey where hundreds of youth workers were reportedly staying. The blast left at least 27 dead and another 100 injured. The body of a suicide bomber was discovered among the dead.
This has been reported in aljazeera.com dated 20 July 2015.
The incident happened in Suruc near the Syrian border and, located near the Syrian town of Kobane. It is home to many refugees who had fled fighting there in recent months.
Kobane has been a battleground between militants from the Islamic State (IS) group and Kurdish fighters since September last year, when IS overran the town and forced a large portion of its residents to flee into Turkey.
The dead are believed to belong to Federation of Socialist Youth Associations (SGDF) who have had nearly 300 members staying at the Amara Culture Centre – they have gathered to take part in rebuilding work in Kobane. They were volunteers who had come from Istanbul and were headed to the Syrian city of Kobane for relief work.

London Mayor Boris Johnson triggers controversy by his remarks on jihadists

#borisjohnson #jihadist #islamicstate London Mayor Boris Johnson has, in an interview with a major publication house, triggered a controversy by his interpretation of the mindset of jihadists as reported in news.sky.com of dated 30 January 2015 – in his opinion, they are tortured, are badly adjusted in their relations with women which, they feel, is an indication of failure and that the whole world is against them.
In short, in the opinion of the Mayor, jihadists are rejected by women, are not making it with girls, and they turn to other forms of spiritual comfort.
It may be recalled that earlier, in August, he had said that Britain must take on Islamic State (IS) and "try to close it down now" and had warned that doing nothing would mean a "tide of terror will eventually lap at our own front door".
As he has put it, the type of people who are likely to get involved in ISIS or get radicalized are similar to those who are vulnerable to becoming drug addicts or other types of criminal activity. These people are just young men in desperate need of self-esteem and they do not have a particular mission in life. They perceive themselves as losers and resort to actions that make them feel like winners.

Islamic State uses heat seeking missile to shoot down coalition plane near Raqqa

#islamicstate #heatseekingmissile #SOHR It has been reported that Islamic State (IS) militants have shot down a US-led coalition warplane near Raqqa over northern Syria. This has been informed by the activists of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The aircraft is believed to be from an Arab state and had gone down near Raqqa after being hit by a heat seeking missile. While the UK-based SOHR group indicated that the fate of the pilot was unknown, the IS supporters have published photos which they have said showed a Jordanian airman surrounded by gunmen. Confirmation of this would mean that this would be the first coalition warplane to have been shot down since air strikes on IS began in September.
The authorities in Jordan, one of four Arab countries whose aircraft have been flying sorties over Syria, has so far not commented on the incident but reports indicate that the pilot was a Jordanian of the Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF). His identity has been revealed and his father has confirmed about the crash.
Hundreds of air strikes have been carried out on IS in Syria in the past three months by the air forces of Jordan, the US, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain and a number of targets have been in and around Raqqa. This city is the de facto capital of the "caliphate" whose creation IS had proclaimed in June.
