Airlines hike airfare from Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata to Patna ahead of the festive season

It is the festive season and airlines have hiked the airfares from Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata to Patna. The rise is, in some cases is in excess of more than three-fold over the off-peak season rates. The price of air tickets for flights from Delhi to Patna and from Mumbai to Patna were more than the rate from Delhi to Sharjah or from Delhi to Singapore or Delhi to Bangkok. These are for destinations in other countries. Obviously, airline companies were taking advantage of the flexible fare during the peak season. In the opinion of experts, the spike might continue. This is not only for Delhi but also for other cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, and Surat. It is obvious that people can afford to pay these exorbitant rates and no one is gumbling. Airfare from Delhi, Mumbai to Patna rises upto three fold amid Diwali, Chhath.

One of the biggest reasons for the spikes in airfare could possibly be the non-availability of train tickets. The waiting lists for trains are very high and even Tatkal tickets are not available. Hence, the railways plan to start additional mail and express trains bound for destinations in Bihar. These could include Patna, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Jay Nagar, Kishanganj, Katihar, and Barauni (Begusarai). Moreover, Northern Railway has decided to run 32 additional mail and express trains bound to provide some relief to the passengers. According to the officials, there will be 211 trains until Chatth Puja. These will originate from Jammu, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Delhi, Bhiwani, and Pathankot. The authorities want the people to come home to enjoy the festive season with their near and dear ones.

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee will be representing Bengal at the Bangkok Global Asian conference which is scheduled on 27 and 28 November. She had received the invitation letter in Munich during her recent visit to the city. There will be reps from Singapore, Malaysia, Bangkok and India in the conference.
Her trip has been successful because Bengal has received investment worth Rs.450 crore on the last day itself.

Since other states have exhausted their opportunities, Bengal is the sole destination for investment and has a lot of opportunities because it enjoys locational advantage. It is convenient to reach south Asian countries and north eastern states from Bengal.
Mamata Banerjee also indicated that business heads of Munich have agreed to attend the state's Bengal Global Business Summit in January 2017.

254 spotted pond turtles found packed in suitcase of Bangkok flight at Kolkata airport

A plan to smuggle out 254 spotted pond turtles from Kolkata to Bangkok was foiled by alert Customs staff at the airport. These turtles are found in Assam, southern Pakistan and Bangladesh, and fall in the category of endangered species protected under the wildlife protection act. It is illegal to trade them.
The turtles confiscated weighed between 200 and 600g each.

The Bangkok-bound passenger was carrying these turtles in his baggage and successfully managed to bypass the X-ray screening at the airport. However, they were detected during screening by customs officials. The man had an accomplice who had a similar looking baggage and was also bound for Bangkok. And, since his baggage did not have anything illegal, the CISF men gave the security clearance at the X-ray screening.
However, once he got the clearance tags, he passed on to his accomplice who attached the tags on his baggage, which had the turtles. Then he coolly headed for his airline's check-in counter. The problem happened when both the bags were on the conveyor belt. Since these bags go to the customs area, officials picked them up randomly for screening.
This is done for registered baggage meant for international flights and, in the course of these checks, they detected some movement inside the bags. Once the bags were opened, out came the turtles.
And - the man was missing.
The turtles have, since, been handed over to the State forest department officials later took them to the wildlife rescue center in Salt Lake.
