The tree which was located on LDG Road, Little Mount, Saidapet, has received a new lease of life.
This has been reported in thehindu.com dated 29 January 2017.
The Greater Chennai Corporation’s park division provided fungicide to help revive the giant tree while Larsen and Toubro provided the manpower to rehabilitate the tree. To do this, the branches were pruned, after which the tree was given anti-fungal treatment. Then a five by five feet pit was dug and sand and mud removed from the original spot were transferred to fill the pit. After 15 days it would be provided more nutrients.
The residents were keen to resurrect the tree because it has been around for more than two centuries and defined the area they live in. The shade of this majestic banyan had even the venue for a number of marriages and functions.
