The Metro station at Mantri Square in Malleswaram, is already having notices warning commuters not to deface the station. Similarly for the east-west corridor of Namma Metro - the stations are getting dirtier by the day. There are also posters with big bold words, "Warning: Do not spit here. Fine up to Rs 500". But, they do not serve as a deterrent.
This has been reported in timesofindia.indiatimes.com dated 13 June 2016.
Namma Metro ridership is on the rise (currently it is at 1 lakh commuters daily). The BMRC has to maintain cleanliness and hygiene at the stations. Regular short films and messages on the need to keep the environs clean are beamed for commuters on the move but, the irritants remain. People continue to litter the walls and floors with chewed pan masala, betel nut and other such stuff in Metro stations like Mantri Square, Byappanahalli and Mysuru Road station near Nayandahalli.
Obviously much more needs to be done - in fact, the while culture of littering our surroundings must be stopped.
