This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 15 June 2016.
It seems these diamondback moths have arrived in their tens of millions in the past few days and that is not the end, many more are expected. The sheer numbers of the ‘super pest’ insect (believed to be 100 times higher than in previous years) would have a devastating effect on cabbages and other vegetables.
Once they lay their eggs, the eggs hatch within four or five days. Then the moths’ larvae chew through their leaves and only the veins are left.
The warning has been given by the Rothamsted Research institute in Harpenden, Hertfordshire. They have reported a two mile cloud of moths at Leominster. And, once the progeny of this influx arrives in mid-July, their numbers could be biblical.
