28 thrillseekers stuck in Alton Towers Galactica rollercoaster ride for 40 minutes

It was a terrible experience for 28 thrillseekers when they got stuck in the Galactic roller coaster ride at Alton Towers. They were left dangling for nraly half an hour after it stopped in heavy rain that obscured one of te sensors. In a similar incident last year, five people were left injured in the Smiler accident that left five people seriously injured last year.
This has been reported in news.sky.com dated 2 May 2016.
Alton Towers has intimated that it took 19 minutes to get the 28 people down from the ride after it stopped shortly before 2pm - but, some witnesses insisted that they were stuck for between 30 and 40 minutes.
Alton Towers has also clarified that the riders were not stuck upside down. Heavy rains had obscured a sensor on Galactica and, the ride automatically stopped - that is the way it has been deigned. It is a standard safety feature on this ride. The ride has, subsequently, re-opened.
