This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 11 January 2016.
It seems the residents went to the People’s Square in the city where they stood in line and waited for their freebie. They had come at 7am and formed two long queues - they wore masks and protective clothing. The Liaocheng Meteorological Bureau had issued a red smog alert through which it had warned and reminded children and the elderly to avoid outdoor activities.
However, the people waited patiently and were happy when they received their new hanging wall calendars. These calendars are worth about 20 Yuan (£2) and have come from a local merchant whose objective was to drum up business in the New Year.
Incidentally, this year’s Chinese New Year is on February 8 and it has been branded as the year of the monkey, which is ninth of the twelve animals in the Chinese zodiac.
