Animals in Green Island private zoo in Russia die in sudden floods

A sudden flood in the Green Island private zoo in Ussuriysk, Russia, has left many of the animals dead while 14 brown bears and a lion remain trapped in their cages. This has been reported in news.sky.com dated 31 August 2015.
The animals that drowned are a wolf, a lynx and the city’s favorite female bear Masyanya – all of them drowned in their cages when a river in the eastern city of Ussuriysk burst its banks. The bears were seen stranded in half-submerged cages as the zoo workers tried to feed them bread, sugar and medicine from a boat.
The animals are suffering from cold and exhaustion and some of the bears had to stand upright continuously to be able to breathe. While the cages have wheels and can be moved, but it seems the cages are either sealed or the keys have been lost in the flood.
In the opinion of the owner of the zoo, the only way to evacuate the animals was with a cargo helicopter.
