Goldfish turn out to be a menace in Colorado

#ColoradoParksandWildlife #electrofishing #goldfish People love to keep goldfish in bowls in their drawing rooms – they are a beauty to behold. But, when they become a menace, efforts have to be taken to eliminate them. That is what Colorado Parks and Wildlife is worried about – it seems the 12-acre Teller Lake #5 is teeming with goldfish and there are at least 4000 of them.
This has been reported in fxnews.com dated 7 April 2015.
In the opinion of experts, the goldfish must have multiplied from perhaps four or five abandoned pets two or three years ago.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife is now faced with two options to clean the lake – one is to drain the entire lake to remove the fish, the other option is to go in for electrofishing. In this process, the fish are stunned by an electrical current placed in the water which stuns the fish. They can then be taken out when in the paralyzed state. The goldfish are non-native species and are roughly two to four inches in length, many of them are of a "vivid gold" color.
The goldfish will not be released back as pets but would most probably end up as food at a local raptor rehabilitation program.
