Chess grandmaster caught cheating using smartphone – expelled, faces 15-year ban

#ChessGrandmaster #smartphone #Nigalidze #chess #Petrosian Chess grandmaster Gaioz Nigalidze, the current Georgian champion, was expelled from the Dubai Open Chess tournament because he was caught cheating by using his smartphone – he had kept a smartphone in a cubicle and had covered it in toilet paper. After his opponent gave a move, Nigalidze would rush to the toilet.
His opponent grew suspicious and lodged a complaint with the organizers and they apprehended him red handed using his phone in the middle of a match as reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 12 April 2015.
The errant player, a two-time national champion, has been expelled from this international tournament and now faces a 15-year ban after he was caught sneaking to the toilet to check moves on his mobile phone.
The complaint was made by Armenia's Tigran Petrosian, the opponent of Gaioz Nigalidze in their sixth-round match in the tournament. It seems Nigalidze would promptly reply to Tigran’s moves and then literally rush to the toilet.
Tournaments that are sanctioned by the International Chess Federation - including the Dubai Open – are very strict. They do not allow players to carry mobile phones and other electronic devices during matches.
