Detroit man who walks 34-Km daily to go to work

#RochesterHills #detroit #crowdfunding One usually has a rosy picture of America and that those who live there do not face transportation problems but, here is the case of a man from Detroit who has to walk 34-Km daily to go to his work as reported in nzherald.co.nz dated 3 February 2015 – he walks 13 Km to reach his office and 21-Km on the return journey. And, he has never been ate for the past 12-years!!
He is 56-year-old James Robertson and, although he rides buses part of the way to and from his factory job in suburban Rochester Hills, he still has to walk those 34-Km. Of late, he is getting occasional rides from a banker who passes him walking every day and finally asked what he was doing.
He started to walk when his car stopped working ten years ago and the bus service was cut back.
When the news appeared in a newspaper, hundreds of people have crowdfunded and contributed tens of thousands of dollars to help him buy a car and pay for insurance. Some others have offered to drive him for free.
It seems the crowdfunding was started by Evan Leedy, a 19-year-old student at Wayne State University – after reading the story he started a GoFundMe site with the goal of raising $5,000 and has already raised over $70,000.
