Reports indicate that so-called lobster shacks, modelled on those in Maine, America, are springing up, and are serving the seafood in a roll for as little as £9. In the opinion of Simon King of Burger & Lobster which is an expanding restaurant group, in spite of problems of keeping the shellfish alive in shop tanks, the lobsters will soon become more commonplace on menus across the country.
Analysts feel lobsters would be available at a lower price than ever this year because of its growing popularity. This is borne out by the fact that on its opening day, the 240-seat Burger & Lobster restaurant in Cardiff dished out nearly 200 customers at lunchtime.
The restaurant has plans to open three new branches in London during 2015, and will open in Manchester this spring while Bath and Liverpool later in the year. As Simon King has said – 20-years ago people didn't have king prawns and, now you can get them almost anywhere.
The charge in his restaurants for a one-and-a-half-pound lobster is £20 – of course, his rival chains are charging less but for smaller lobsters.
