Live-in is fine but marriage is better – 2000 Brazilian couples marry in a mass marriage in Rio-de-Janeiro

It was a marriage of another kind when nearly 2,000 Brazilian couples got married en-masse at an indoor sports venue in Rio de Janeiro. It was for the low income group namely those with family income of up to $1,000 (£640) and is believed to have been the biggest mass wedding in the city's history.
The annual event was promoted by the local authorities and its purpose was to help the low-income couples who cannot afford to pay for a wedding to get married. In order to make travel easier for the couples, the authorities in Rio arranged for special commuter trains for not just the couples but. Also for their guests.
It seems an estimated 12,000 people attended the ceremony at the Maracanazinho arena and volunteer civil judges presided over the ceremony while the couples were blessed by a Roman Catholic bishop and a Christian evangelical pastor. The event has been named "Dia do Sim", or "I Do Day".
Incidentally, many of the couples had been in live-in relationships and were keen to set the records straight and formalize the relationship. Some of the brides had been waiting for this opportunity and many couples had come with their children.
Mass wedding in India – a Gujarat diamond tycoon hosted a mass wedding for 111 fatherless women – he has also given them gifts worth Rs 4.5 lakhs each – the gifts consist of gold and silver ornaments. This gentleman has, so far, organized the weddings of 251 women since 2008 when he started on this charitable campaign.
