There were more than 90 young offenders, all of them below the age of 18 and they managed to hoodwink the police. They escaped from the rear while police guarded the front! It was a simple process – they removed an iron grille from a window and tied bed sheets together to form a link to lower themselves to the ground.
Of course, thirty-five of them have, since, been recaptured. Police got a whiff of the escape when some of the prisoners was seen trying to get a lift in some vehicle going out of the city.
As per the information of the police chief, those still on the run included inmates who have been convicted of crimes such as murder, rape, theft and banditry.
As per official figures, there are over 31,000 young offenders who are being held at detention centers across the country.
