BJP embarrassed as its own MP raises issue of corruption among party leaders

Within one year of being in office, the Narendra Modi government has been embarrassed by a number of revelations of corruption charges leveled against senior members of BJP and it has tried to play them down. During election meetings, Narendra Modi had said that ‘na khayenge, na hi khane denge’ (or words to that effect) meaning ‘we will not bribe others, neither will we accept bribe from others’.
But, one of its own MPs has now voiced his concerns to party president Amit Shah.
This has been reported in ibnlive.com dated 21 July 2015.
The man who has embarrassed BJP is none other than Shanta Kumar – he has raised the issues of corruption that the party is facing in the states of Rajasthan and Maharashtra. In his opinion, such acts are affecting the morale of the party workers. He has also called for setting up an ethics committee to act as a Lokpal to keep a check on party leaders.
The irregularities relate to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and ex Indian Premier League chief Lalit Modi's travel request, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje alleged help to Lalit Modi to get UK stay permit. Then there is the multi-crore Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh – the death of as many as 49 people are believed to be linked to this high-profile scam.
And, last but not least, the alleged chikki scam in Maharashtra in which the name of BJP MLA Pankaja Munde is coming up – she is being accused of a Rs 206 crore chikki scam and also of awarding a contract to build dam to a private company without tender.

Four naughty women tie the Modi government in knots

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when taking over the reins of the country had indicated that he was not one to accept corruption. His administration has, within the year, initiated action against previous regime stalwarts who are believed to have been involved in irregularities. But, he is now faced with four women leaders who belong to his own party and appear to have been involved in misdeeds that are tarnishing the clean image of the part.
It seems it is turning out to be a case of the pot calling the kettle of being black.
The way skeletons are stumbling out of the cupboard of the Modi government within one year in office is a matter of concern for the Prime Minister.
Four women stalwarts are in the center of controversy – two of them are central ministers, one is the chief minister of a state and the fourth is a minister in the Maharashtra government. Their behind-the-scenes activity have come a huge embarrassment for the Prime Minister and he, like his predecessor, has chosen to remain silent on the affairs. The chief minister had made a trip to New Delhi to explain her position but she has, apparently, been snubbed by New Delhi.
The controversy surrounding the second union minister is regarding her education certificate – it seems the certificate she had submitted on different occasions for contesting elections were not consistent – she has sought to explain it off as ‘typo errors’.
Once upon a time the party that used to criticize the then Prime Minister of remaining silent on matters of corruption find that their own Prime Minister is following the same route.
And, ever since the controversy broke, the senior minister is abroad – probably waiting for the heat to cool off.
As to the minister of Maharashtra, she is trying to put up a brave front – she is the daughter of a famous political leader and knows the tricks of the trade.

Age-old proverbs in new capsules (3)

This is the 3rd set of proverbs – old and time-tested bits of wisdom that have traveled down the centuries and are, in my inion, valid even today. Hope it does not bore you ….....
Every cloud has a silver lining – a stock phrase to soothe ruffled feathers. When faced with a problem that has no easy solution, it is customary to console the aggrieved by suggesting that he approach the actual Gods rather than the lesser Gods.
Exception proves the rule – some people thrive on exceptions. To them, anything out of the ordinary is not bound by any rule. When you board a train, it is expected that you will reach your destination in one piece. If not on schedule then probably several hours later. But – when you arrive at your destination in several pieces packed in a crate – the authorities say ‘this should not have happened. This is an exception.’
Give him an inch and he will take a yard – we see this happening regularly. In a bus, when you see an elderly person standing and offer him a seat by squeezing yourself, he reciprocates by going off to sleep by putting his head on your shoulder. Similar is the case in reserved compartments of long distance trains. You try to be nice to some short distance traveler and, in a very short time, regret the decision and wish that you had not succumbed to the ‘feel good’ factor!
Honesty is the best policy – therefore support only honest corruption. Do not be misled by so called well-wishers who try to win your confidence by saying that ‘aap ka chinta hamare upar chhor dijiye, hum sab kuch dekh lenge!’ He is bound to ditch you.
He laughs best who laughs last – laughter is an expression of happiness. Situations where one can laugh his heart out are fast vanishing. Laughing clubs have sprung up to remind us that laughter is the best medicine. Today, we have laughter forced upon us as comic interludes to break the monotony of song and dance sequences in our Bollywood movies. These movies transform our world into worlds of fantasy and make believe where lost siblings reunite in the last scene as the bad ones get thrashed. Everything miraculously fits into place in the last scene! How unreal!! How we miss the good old days of Laurel and Hardy, Mehmood and Kishore Kumar.
Look before you leap – this is especially true in the night when walking down to your house from the bus stop or the market. All the roads, lanes and by lanes in any city resemble craters on the Moon. Potholes abound – mischievous ones suggest that these are intentional creations of nearby slum dwellers. To rid you of your belongings. If you miss your step, they will shift you to the hospital.
Make hay while the Sun shines – thanks to technology, the Sun can be made to shine at our will. We have invented incubators – to control the production of poultry chickens. We also have scientific methods within our grasp of generating artificial ‘sunlight’ that can convert grass into hay. So hay need not wait for the Sun to shine.
Man proposes God disposes – you plan a journey and numerous hurdles appear. The train may be delayed indefinitely or be cancelled. The flight may not take off due to fog. If it does take off, it may not land at your destination – again due to bad weather. You feel these are what God had ordained. You are grossly mistaken. These are results of the ineptness of those in charge.
