Powerful storm in California as Sacramento County faces a tornado

The powerful storm in California left one person dead and two others missing. Floodwaters in a canal swept them away while a tornado touched down in Sacramento County. According to the National Weather Service, the tornado touched down at 1:40 p.m. a few miles outside the town of Galt. It blew away a tin roof on a barn and downed utility lines. The stormy weather raised concerns because it was Election Day and it could keep people from voting. Moreover, there were warnings of flash flood in some areas. The Ontario Fire Department mentioned about a current in a canal in the city that swept six people away. One of them died while firefighters rescued three others. Search is on for the missing persons. 1 dead, 2 missing after floods, snow, tornado hit California on Election Day.

Heavy rain drenched Orange County. There are very close contests here and the result could play a major role to decide which party controls Congress. The Republican Party of the County urged members to vote early and avoid getting stuck in the rain on Election Day. The storm came on Monday and was forecast to continue through Wednesday. This led to issue of evacuation orders in parts of Southern California. The Met department in Northern California warned about the heavy rainfall with consequent debris flows and flash floods in the areas devastated by wildfires in Colorado. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for the greater Lake Tahoe area. It could lead to heavy snow in the region with consequent backups in major highways in the area. The agency cautioned that driving in the region would be extremely difficult, if not impossible. Drivers could face whiteout conditions and sub-zero wind chills along ridgelines and near the mountain passes.

Deadly tornado kills seven in Iowa, millions under threat of storms from Atlanta to Philadelphia

Parts of the United States face threats of storms after a tornado left seen people dead in Iowa. The dead included two children, and dozens of homes felt the impact. Media reports say the storms could affect millions of people from Atlanta to Philadelphia. The main threats would come in the form of isolated tornadoes and damaging winds. There would also be heavy rain especially across the Ohio River Valley. The authorities have issued flood warnings. This is because of continuous rainfall in the region over the past two weeks. That has saturated the soil and it would mean floods.

It is necessary for people to take advance action and be prepared to face such situations. There could be power failures and powerful torches, batteries and electrical generators could help. Knowledge on location of storm shelters and medical facilities are important. Climatic disturbances like tornadoes and heavy rainfall would make travel difficult. In fact, residents should avoid going out and stock up on essentials like food, clean water, and medicines.

Tornado with windspeed of 95mph ripped through central Britain

A massive tornado with wind-speed of 95mph ripped through a holiday village and destroyed chalets and caravans, and left scenes of 'absolute carnage' as extreme weather swept through central Britain. The location was Clarach Bay, near Aberystwyth, West Wales where chalets were flattened and roofs of houses were ripped off.
More than 550 properties in Wales were without power and yellow weather warnings were hoisted for wind and dangerous driving conditions. Moreover, all bus service was suspended in the area, and a road near the coast was closed because trees were ripped from the ground and twenty caravans blown over.
This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 17 November 2016.
Several other roads were closed due to fallen trees, and the extreme weather is expected to sweep from Wales in the west across the Midlands while in Hartside, Cumbria, heavy rain turned to snow, which blanketed the hills in the town in eastern Scotland. Forecasters have warned that snow could arrive in other parts of the UK overnight, with the Pennines expected to receive several centimetres.
Students at Aberystwyth University were advised to batten down the hatches and remain because the high winds cancelled lectures and the students were told return to residences, stay indoors, monitor emails.

Storm and tornado batter southern US just before Christmas – at least four dead

#tornado #mississippi #christmas Just two days before Christmas, the southern part of the United States Mississippi has been hit by a storm and it has left at least four persons dead apart from causing damages to homes and businesses and flipped cars apart from knocking out power to thousands of homes.
Obviously, Mother Nature has unleashed her anger at the way the world is turning a blind eye to the destruction of the environment and causing Planet Earth to lose its ecological balance.
Due to this storm in Mississippi, Gov. Phil Bryant has declared an emergency for two southeastern counties where officials say four people have reportedly died in the storms and several more were injured. The office of the Governor has revealed that thousands were without power in and around Columbia, which is about 80 miles southeast of Jackson.
As per the Jones County Emergency Management director, the deaths were of a man and woman who were killed inside a mobile home in the storm's path in Laurel. Moreover, about 50 miles southwest, Marion County coroner Norma Williamson has indicated that two people were killed in Columbia, one of them was in a trailer park, the other at a strip mall.
A large number of people were still trapped inside their homes and TV footage showed cars, including an ambulance, flipped over and a few businesses wrecked. Three highways leading into Columbia have been shut down due to downed trees, power lines and other debris. Travel plans will naturally go haywire.
The storms are moving toward Georgia, including Atlanta, and Florida and according to local media reports, a tornado touched down in Amite, Louisiana. It downed a number of power lines and trees and tore the roof off at least one home. Golf ball-sized hail fell in Enterprise, Mississippi, along with some pea-sized hail in the Bude area.
