President Obama goes snorkeling in Hawaii before relinquishing office

President Barack Obama is usually seen in a suit and tie while giving speeches and meeting fellow world leaders. However, before relinquishing office, he was seen in a totally different environment - he was snorkeling among the wildlife in the waters of the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Midway Atoll.
This atoll is halfway between the United States and China and not far from Hawaii - the place where the president grew up.
This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 11 January 2017.
President Obama had visited the island in September to inspect the clear waters after declaring the expansion of Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument to include Midway. And, while there, he felt an urge to snorkel close to the wildlife and coral.
He confided to a magazine that growing up in Hawaii he 'knows what it’s like to jump into the ocean and understanding what it means when you see a sea turtle in the face of a wave.'
He appeared to be a strong, athletic swimmer and was relaxed as he relished both the exercise and beauty of the ocean. The environment and conservation is one part of what he believes as his legacy and he has tried to lower carbon emissions and has also extended national parks.

US President Barack Obama to address the UN General Assembly for the eighth and last time

US President Barack Obama will be addressing the UN General Assembly for the eighth and last time on Tuesday and, in the course of his speech, he is expected to review some of the trends that have been shaping the international order for many years. This has been disclosed by one of his close aides.
President Obama will leave Washington DC for New York on Sunday morning to attend the annual General Assembly Session as the US President.
This has been reported in thestatesman.com dated 17 September 2016.
Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes has informed the media during a conference call that President Obama would possibly offer his thoughts in this final forum to address the entire world about the types of approaches that they need to take as a national community to deal with a myriad of challenges.
He is also likely to talk about "how we can ensure that we're continuing to promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth; how we are promoting the type of inclusive governance that both respects the rights of individuals around the world, but also facilitate to the many challenges that we face -- governance obviously being a critical component of what is needed to deal with issues in the Middle East and North Africa -- and then discuss the type of international cooperation we're seeking to build."
Rhodes also added that President Obama could talk on the Paris model because it involves nearly every country in the world who have to step forward and make commitments to work together to deal with the global challenge. The President could also discuss how we can apply international cooperation to deal with the many issues that are shaping this period in time.

Prince Charles and Camilla visit the US and tour monuments

#princecharles #presidentobama #joebiden #royalvisitusa Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, are on a four-day tour to the United States and were shown around the towering monuments to Martin Luther King and Abraham Lincoln before heading to the former home of George Washington.
This has been reported in news.sky.com dated 19 March 2015.
For a start, the Royal couple visited famous monuments in Washington DC. At the Martin Luther King Memorial, they were joined by two civil rights leaders, the Rev Jesse Jackson and Georgia congressman John Lewis. They had organized the famous Selma march in 1965.
Prince Charles, the 66-year-old heir to the British throne accompanied by the duchess then toured George Washington's Mount Vernon estate in Virginia – he had last visited it in 1970. Charles and Camilla also greeted students and teachers from a high school in Virginia.
They were greeted by schoolchildren and a lone piper and, laid a wreath on the grave of the man who, more than anyone else, ensured Americans would not be the prince's future subjects. Other visits included the National Archives, which holds the US constitution, the Declaration of Independence and a copy of the English Magna Carta.
The Royal Couple would also go to the Oval Office where they would have informal talks with US President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. Subsequently, Charles and Camilla would proceed to Louisville, Kentucky, to tour an African-American cultural center which celebrates the life of the city's most famous son, boxer Muhammad Ali.
Among his itinerary is a meeting with faith leaders where he would give a speech at the cathedral in Louisville. It may be recalled that Prince Charles had last met the president in May 2011, a few days after the wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton.
The Prince is no stranger to the US because this visit would be his 20th official visit spanning five decades.

Soon there could be a second White House, a fake one to train the Secret Service

#whitehouse #presidentobama #ussecretservice #josephclancy In view of a number of security lapses in the White House, Joseph Clancy, the director of US Secret Service feels another White House, a fake one, is needed to train the Secret Service staff. At preset they train in a car park that does not replicate the environments of the White House.
Joseph Clancy, therefore, wants a sanction of $8m to build a replica White House to train agents. It would be located in Beltsville, Maryland, 20-miles from the president's real home in Washington.
This has been reported in news.sky.com dated 18 March 2015.
The director has explained that they train in a car park that does not have the bushes and fountains that the White House grounds do, hence the need to have a replica mansion which would provide agents and officers a training experience that would be more realistic.
His request is against the backdrop of several embarrassing security lapses including one in which a knife-wielding man managed to sprint across the White House lawn and make his way into the mansion before he was restrained.
Incidentally, he is a 30-year veteran and was appointed by President Obama to take over the troubled agency on a permanent basis when the earlier incumbent was forced to resign.
