Garbine Muguruza wins French Open 2016 by beating Serena Williams 7-5, 6-4

Garbine Muguruza beat Serena Williams in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 to win her maiden French Open grand slam title. In doing so, she defeated the world number one and defending champion Serena Williams in the 2016 French Open final.
This has been reported in indianexpress.com dated 5 June 2016.
Garbine Muguruza, the 22-year-old fourth seed, had lost to Williams in last year’s Wimbledon final and has now become the first Spaniard to lift the Suzanne Lenglen Cup since Arantxa Sanchez Vicario in 1998. It was her first final on the slow surface of Court Philippe Chatrier and she relied on a powerful first serve and jaw-dropping winners down the line to subdue the American in a battle of will.
Serena Williams was gunning for a professional era record 22nd major title and would have to wait some more.

Serena Williams wins sixth Wimbledon crown – and 21st Grand Slam title

#serenawilliams #wimbledon2015 #stefigraf #GarbineMuguruza Age has not blunted her reflexes as Serena Williams proved at Wimbledon 2015 when she beat Garbine Muguruza of Spain in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to hold aloft the crown for the sixth time. This is her 21st Grand Slam title a well.
Her age now is 33 years and 289 days and she surpasses Martina Navratilova as the oldest player to win Wimbledon, and any of the other three Grand Slams, in the Open era.
This has been reported in timesofindia.indiatimes.com dated 11 July 2015.
With this win, Serena Williams earned a cheque for £1.8 million ($2.7 million, 2.5 million euros). If she can now defend the US Open, she would become the first woman since Steffi Graf in 1988 to claim a calendar Grand Slam.
Incidentally, she is now one major title behind Stefi Graf on the Open era leaderboard and within three of all-time record holder Margaret Court's tally of 24. Moreover, Serena is the first player since Graf in 1988 to win Wimbledon and the Australian and French Opens in the same year.
