Kolkata High Court expresses concern over potbellied policemen

People often used to draw a parallel between Calcutta police and Scotland Yard, their London counterparts. However, after seeing some 40 odd photographs of potbellied policemen, a very valid question was posed by the honorable High Court - 'does Scotland Yard have big tummies?'
A high court division bench was shocked after seeing pictures of the potbellied cops. The photographs were presented by a petitioner and the Court asked the state home secretary to file an affidavit stating the steps the government would take to improve the fitness of the city police personnel. In case the government has already undertaken any program, they will have to indicate that in the affidavit.
The matter will again come up for hearing after four weeks.
This has been reported in telegraphindia.com dated 14 January 2017.
The 30,000-odd force of Kolkata Police does have some exceptionally fit men and women but they are far outnumbered by cops who can barely move with their bulging bellies. The sorry sight of such cops earns ridicule for the entire force.
While fitness exercises are a compulsory component of the training curriculum, once the cops complete training and get absorbed into the force, the exercises become optional.
The message of the court is clear - city cops will have to get cracking and shed some tummy fat.
