A 212-Kg bluefin tuna sold for $637,000 in Tokyo


A 212-Kg bluefin tuna was sold for 74.2 million Yen ($637,000) in the first auction of the year at the famous Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo. The fish was caught off Oma in Aomori prefecture and sold for about 350,000 Yen (some $3,005) per kilo.
This is the second highest ever price at a New Year's auction at Tsukiji market.

The winning bid was made by Kiyoshi Kimura, the president of the sushi restaurant chain Sushi Zanmai - and he has done it for the sixth consecutive year. In 2013m he paid 155.4 million Yen ($1.33 million) for a bluefin tuna and that is a record.
Kiyoshi Kimura is a famous 64-year-old businessman and he seeks to capture media attention and attract the public to his restaurants with these record purchases.
