This has been reported in timesofindia.indiatimes.com dated 22 October 2016.
As a result of depleting water level in the reservoirs, the Udhagamandalam (Ooty) municipality has prioritized water supply to residential areas and has left commercial establishments, such as hotels and restaurants, high and dry. They have to fend for themselves because wells are also fast going dry in the region.
Consequently, hoteliers have to depend on private water suppliers in the town. There are fears that if this situation continues and if there is no sign of rain in another couple of weeks, they will not be in a position to run the business.
Apparently, in the past two decades the population and the number of hotels in the hills have increased by five to six folds. But, the main water pipeline remains the same and new connections have been tapped from the main line. Therefore, the water pressure is very low.
