They had collected nearly 800 of the lost balls before police descended on the scene.
This hasbeen reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 17 September 2016.
The two men had traveled over 70 miles from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, to Manor Golf Club in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, to carry out the extraordinary theft and had managed to retrieve 800 golf balls from the water hazard on the golf course.
These balls usually sell for 60p each and, if they sold them for 50p each, that would amount to £400 worth of balls they had. And, from their preparations, it appeared that it was not the first time they were doing it and that it was a lucrative little business.
