Foodies of Kolkata beat other Metros when it comes to online ordering


It is a modern trend that food is ordered online and delivered at home through thousands of outlets in the cities and, an analysis by Zomato, an online food portal, has revealed that Kolkata has the country's hungriest people. The study has shown that Kolkattans certainly make the largest food orders online - an average order size is Rs 690. The corresponding order value in other metros are - Delhi Rs 640, Hyderabad Rs 625, Bengaluru (Rs 540), Chennai Rs 500, Mumbai Rs 490 and Pune Rs 450. The highest single value order till date was Rs 21,500 - the identity of the person has not been disclosed.

The most preferred food items are chicken biryani, burgers, butter chicken, pizza and hakka noodles. In North India, the usual fare that tops the list are Chinese, and Italian apart from south Indian and 'healthy food'.
As per the data, 86% of customers order via their cellphones, with 53% of them using Android devices, 29% on iOS handsets and 4% via mobile web gadgets. Only 14% used desktops to order food.
Another interesting fact is that in spite of various online payment options available that offer offer discounts on online orders, nearly 70% of customers prefer to pay cash on delivery.
