Forest officials rescue crocodiles and pythons from a private zoo in Kolkata

A private zoo in Madhyamgram near Kolkata held a number of reptiles like crocodiles, pythons, and king cobra and forest officials removed 49 of them because they were not being taken care of properly by the owner. One of the crocodiles weighed 250-Kg and was probably the oldest of the lot. In the opinion of the officials, its age could be close to 35 and at least seven people had to be deployed to lift and carry it from its enclosure to the van.
This has been reported in telegraphindia.com dated 6 December 2015.
The Forest officials rescued eight crocodiles, six pythons and a king cobra apart from other reptiles in the nearly five-hour operation and shifted them out in two trucks and two smaller vehicles to Alipore zoo.
The owner of the private zoo is a famous snake catcher and was once considered a hero by people interested in conserving animals, birds and reptiles. Apart from the zoo near Madhyamgram, he has a wide variety of snakes and other reptiles in his south Calcutta home.
