Kerala bans beggars and lottery ticket sellers from its temples

Kerala has taken a bold step to ban beggars and lottery ticket sellers from entering temples and the ban extends to begging and selling of lottery tickets in temples and its surroundings in the state. This is based on a suo moto cognisance by a division bench of the Kerala High Court who have issued the order due to the growing menace of begging in and around various temples in the state, especially at the famous hill shrine of Sabarimala. In this temple, beggars from neighboring states come in hordes during pilgrimage season.
This has been reported in zeenews.india.com dated 26 November 2015.
The bench has said the the prohibition should be strictly implemented in all temples, including 'Sabarimala sannidhanam', Pamba and other major shrines under Travancore and Cochin Devaswom boards.
Similar ban has been imposed on sale of lottery tickets inside temple compounds and any violation should be brought to the notice of the police.
