Extend your lifespan to 120-years - anti-aging drugs under development

#antiaging #metformin #Alzheimers #Parkinsons #health Man wants a long life and, with research going on how to extend the lifespan of humans, a time could come very soon when humans can expect to live to be not just 100 but even 120!! A drug is under development which has proved successful on animals and tests are now being planned to be conducted on humans. It would be the world's first anti-aging drug which will be tested on humans next year.
This has been reported in nzherald.co.nz dated 30 November 2015.
In the opinion of scientists, it is possible to arrest aging and stop people growing old. That way, diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's will go into the history books.
This is not any sci-fi story but researchers have already proven that the diabetes drug metformin extends the life of animals. This has prompted the Food and Drug Administration in the US to give the go-ahead for a trial to see if the same effects can be replicated in humans. Its success would mean that a person in their 70s would be as biologically healthy as a 50-year-old.
Scientists believe that the best candidate for an anti-aging drug is metformin - this is the world's most widely used diabetes drug and costs just 10 cents a day.
Aging expert Prof Gordon Lithgow, of the Buck Institute for Research on Aging in California, is one of the advisers of the study. In short, once it is possible to slow down aging, then automatically, all the diseases and pathology of aging as well slows down.
The new clinical trial is called Targeting Aging with Metformin, or TAME. It is scheduled to begin in the US next winter and scientists from a range of institutions are currently raising funds and recruiting 3,000 persons in the 70 to 80-age group who have, or are at risk of, cancer, heart disease and dementia.
