The city police officials have revealed that 80 organizers have sought permission for ticketed venues in and around the city. Against this, the number of sheri garba (local-level garbas) is expected to exceed 10,000.
This has been reported in timesofindia.indiatimes.com dated 14 October 2015.
Sheri garbas have gradually become bigger and in the last few years societies have been spending anything between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 10 lakh for nine nights – this includes cost of prizes and decorations. However, the midnight deadline will prove to be a deterrent because the real garba starts only after 9 pm.
The police wants organizers to ensure strict adherence to the specified norms for permissions. There should be adequate security arrangements, CCTV cameras, metal detectors at entry points, and separate entry and exit points apart from adequate parking space.
