Manzanillo is one of the country's principal ports and it experienced rainfall after dark in and the landfall of the hurricane could happen any moment. Mexico's civil defense coordinator has indicated that schools in Colima state, which is home to Manzanillo, would be closed.
The US National Hurricane Center in Miami has warned that the storm could result in coastal flooding, destructive waves and flash floods and, hence, preparations should be rushed to completion because this is an extremely dangerous, and potentially catastrophic hurricane.
The federal government has declared a state of emergency for 56 municipalities in the states of Colima, Nayarit and Jalisco which are in the projected path of the storm.
Patricia's maximum sustained winds had gone up to 260-Kmph and it is labeled as a Category 5 storm. This is the highest designation on the Saffir-Simpson scale used to quantify a hurricane's wind strength.
Patricia was centered about 320-Km south-southwest of Manzanillo and was moving northwest at 20-Kmph on a projected track to come onshore between Manzanillo and Puerto Vallarta.
