China makes operational Zam Hydropower Station – it can produce 2.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity every year

China has made operational its USD 1.5 billion Zam Hydropower Station which is the largest in Tibet and constructed on the River Brahmaputra and it has raised concerns in India over the likelihood of disrupting water supplies.
This has been reported in zeenews.india.com dated 13 October 2015.
All six of the station's units were incorporated into the power grid. This has been indicated by the China Gezhouba Group which is a major hydropower contractor based in Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province in central China.
It is located in the Gyaca County, Shannan Prefecture. The Zam Hydropower Station is also known as Zangmu Hydropower Station, harnesses the rich water resources of Brahmaputra known in Tibet as Yarlung Zangbo River. This is a major river which flows through Tibet into India and later into Bangladesh.
The dam is believed to be the world's highest-altitude hydropower station.
