Series win for India after 22-years on Sri Lankan soil – Ashwin shines with 21 wickets

#INDvsSL #ViratKohli #RavichandranAshwin #cheteshwarpujara It was the sweet smell of success for Virat Kohli and a series win for India at Colombo as they heat the home team to break a 22-year-old jinx on Sri Lankan soil. It was an emphatic 117-run win over the hosts in the third and final cricket Test, thanks to Ravichandran Ashwin who captured a total of 21 wickets in the 3test series.
This has been reported in thehindu.com dated 1 September 2015.
In spite of disturbance due to rains and the failure of some of the batsmen, India succeeded in setting a rather daunting victory target of 386. The contribution of Cheteshwar Pujara with his 145 not out helped the cause.
In reply, Sri Lanka could score only 268 despite Captain Angelo Mathews valiant century. He scored a fighting 110 and shared 135 runs for the sixth wicket with Kusal Perera (70). There appeared a glimmer of hope for Sri Lanka to be able to save the match but, the dismissal of Perera shortly before tea put an end to their hopes.
This was India’s first overseas series victory since June, 2011 against the West Indies and was the first win for India’s new test captain Virat Kohli. India had last won a test series in Sri Lanka in 1993 under the captaincy of Mohammad Azharuddin.
