Hence, the decision of the Madras High Court that two helmets, along with a helmet lock, should come with every two-wheeler purchase is a timely decision. It would boost the use of helmets. Two-wheeler manufacturers should provide helmet locks in vehicles as a component and not as an accessory.
This has been reported in timesofindia.indiatimes.com dated 23 September 2015.
The Honorable Judge underlined the Motor Vehicle Act which made it mandatory for providing helmets to two-wheeler buyers and the Centre should ensure that bike manufacturers provided helmets conforming to BIS standards. That way, sub-standard helmets will not be used.
In the opinion of the judge, celebrities could be roped in to popularize the helmet rule and he brought the case of actor Kamal Haasan who is advocating the cause.
