As explained by Tourism minister RV Deshpande, the government intends to introduce the concept of open streets in the city and the pilot project would happen on MG Road and in Whitefield. It will, subsequently, be extended to other parts of the city.
He made these remarks on the sidelines of an event to mark World Tourism Day at Rangoli Art Centre on MG Road. Many global cities had pedestrianized some streets to attract tourists and Bangalore wants to join such cities.
HSR Layout in southeast Benglauru had recently held the city's first no-traffic day and, while the organizers claimed it as an overwhelming success, some residents were upset with the blanket ban on vehicles.
