Typhoon Soudelor batters Taiwan with 180 mph winds

#TyphoonSoudelor #Taiwan #China Typhoon Soudelor has struck Taiwan just north of the city of Hualien on the east coast of the island, bringing with it fierce winds and torrential rain. As per forecasts, there was a prediction of maximum sustained winds at landfall of about 125 mph (200 kph) – or, the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane.
This has been reported in edition.cnn.com dated 8 August 2015.
The authorities have deployed more than 35,000 military personnel to help relocate residents of vulnerable areas as typhoon Soudelor made its way across the Pacific. It seems some 82,000 homes were without power, according to Taiwan Power Company.
Soudelor has been labeled as the strongest storm on the planet so far this year with peak wind speeds of 180 mph (290 kph), as per the Joint Typhoon Warning Center.
Typhoon Soudelor will move across the sea to mainland China and will continue to pack hurricane-strength winds. Nearly 5,000 people, mostly from the fishing industry, have been moved to safer areas in Fujian province – this is where the typhoon is expected to strike.
