Mockery of ‘beti bachao’ andolan – schoolgirls jump out from moving bus to escape from eve-teasers

Three schoolgirls of Sakchi, Jamshedpur, had to jump of a moving bus to escape from the clutches of eve-teasers traveling in the bus. All the girls studied in the same school and had boarded the bus at Sakchi to go home when the men started teasing them.
This has been reported in ibnlive.com dated 9 August 2015.
It seems the girls had complained to the bus driver and the conductor and also asked them to stop the bus, but their pleas were ignored because the teasers were friends of the driver. Therefore, the girls were forced to jump out from the running bus. One of the girls suffered injuries and was shifted to MGM Hospital and admitted.
The police later nabbed the driver and two of the teasers and seized the bus.
Incidentally, the girls were not regulars on the route and it was not the usual bus in which they generally travel from Sakchi to Mango.
Of late it has become the craze to coin new phrases in order to educate the masses about various aspects of life and living that should come to them automatically – one of these is the ‘beti bachao’ andolan (or Save the daughter or girl child). The incident in Sakchi should act as an eye opener that photo ops and selfies with daughter are not the solution to instill the basic civic sense among the people.
