UP Tourism has ambitious Mahabharata project on the cards

UP Tourism already has Buddhist and Ramayana circuits and, now, a Mahabharata circuit is being planned in consultation of the Delhi based Draupadi Dream Trust. The proposal is to link the three important sites related to Mahabharata namely - Hastinapur, Kampilya and Ahichchhatra which are places where Vedvyas’ epic is believed to have been based.
This has been reported in timesofindia.indiatimes.com dated 24 June 2015.
Hastinapur was the capital of the Kuru clan and is located about 37-Km from present day Meerut.
Kampilya, now a small town called Kampil near Farrukhabad, is the second site and is believed to be the birthplace of Draupadi.
Ahichchhatra or Panchal Desha, is the third site. It was the post-war kingdom ruled by the Panchala king after he gave away half of his land to Acharya Drona. Remains of this city have been discovered near Ramnagar village in Aonla tehsil of Bareilly.
There are other important sites which may be archaeologically linked to the Mahabharata period. Apart from the linking of these sites, the plan also includes the development of tourist infrastructure in the selected destinations. Moreover, important Buddhist and Jain sites falling in the districts would also be promoted.
