#statueofliberty #NYPD #bombthreat #NationalParkService Life has become tense and unpredictable and the slightest deviation from the ordinary can trigger panic as was seen when an anonymous caller rang up 911 and reported that the Statue of Liberty would be blown up. This has been reported in news.sky.com dated 24 April 2015.
Accordingly, the iconic attractions of Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island were emptied following receipt of the call – it sees a 911 caller had threatened to blow up the statue. This has been revealed by the National Park Service.
The all-clear was given after United States Park Police swept the statue with two canine units. A dog, apparently, picked up a scent in the visitors' locker area but, it turned out to be a false alarm. The NYPD bomb squad was also summoned to the scene.
It may be noted that the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are important tourist attractions and nearly four million people visit every year as understood from New York Harbor Parks' website.
The Statue of Liberty is a 151ft sculpture of a torch-bearing woman and it was gifted by France to the US and, dedicated in 1886.
