Bharat Ratna award for Atal Behari Vajpayee and Madan Mohan Malviya


#bharatratna #atalbeharivajpayee #MadanMohanMalviya India has conferred the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award, to former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and freedom fighter and educationist Madan Mohan Malviya who had founded the Benares Hindu University (BHU).
Their names had been sent by the Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to President Pranab Mukherjee for final approval.
The Centre's announcement on this prestigious award has come one day ahead of the veteran BJP leader Vajpayee's birthday, which falls on December 25. He will be 90-years-old.
Al political leaders irrespective of party affiliations have hailed the decision.
Incidentally, the Bharat Ratna Award was instituted on January 2, 1954 and is conferred "in recognition of exceptional service/performance of the highest order", without distinction of race, occupation, position, or sex. As on date, 43 illustrious men and women have been honored with the prestigious award, including leading politician C Rajagopalachari, scientist C V Raman and singer Lata Mangeshkar.
